According to a study released by credit scoring company Experian, metropolitan areas from which many Central Oregon home buyers relocate have some of the highest average credit scores in the country.1
A significant number of people desiring to move to Bend currently live in some of the largest cities on the west coast. Among these, San Francisco (average credit score, 780) and Seattle (777) are in the top 10 metropolitan areas with the highest average credit scores in the United States.
Portland (768), Eugene (765) and San Diego (751) are also shown to have credit scores at or above the level that Freddie Mac recently reported as the average for the loans it currently holds in its portfolio.
(That the average score in Freddie’s portfolio is 751 while Experian lists the national average credit score at 693 certainly sheds some light on why so many people are finding it difficult to get a home loan these days. But that’s another story).
The good news locally is that many prospective buyers from out of the area have credit scores high enough to qualify for a loan. And as they continue to purchase homes and take advantage of our lower prices, they help add stability to the real estate market in Bend and Central Oregon.
So potential home sellers, don't fret. Despite what you may hear about how hard it is to sell your home these days, there are many qualified buyers out there. Feel free to call me to discuss how I can help you sell your home in today's market.
